"And when you pray, do not keep babbling like pagans . . . Do not be like them, for your father

Jesus teaches us that prayers prayed in order to impress God with our verbal skills, or to wear him down and cause him to relent by dint of sheer eloquence and/or volume, is mistaken. To talk him around to our point of view or to talk him into doing something for us is a long way from the purpose of prayer. To talk to God is itself a privilege, and if we keep doing it, we will begin to understand our needs from his point of view. That would really be an answer to prayer.
