Here is stated, the deep reason why the Gospel is not good advice: Because human beings ignore it, rebel against it or, at best, fall short of it. The Bible story is essentially a record of God's intervention in history, set against the background of the sagging virtues and recidivist immoralities of human nature. What we need, ultimately, is not another religious revival, not a new administration in Washington--we need rescue. The truth is this: Among us there is "no-one." We need God to act on our behalf. He has. And he will bring his work to fruition.
