Human life occupies a space of tension between these two inescapable realities: the reality of God, and the reality of suffering. The reality of evil bears upon us in the form of pain, and the reality of God bears upon us as we protest pain. Why is there evil? Why is there good? We are always somewhere between these two questions. Christ never more truly joined us in our predicament than at the cross. Indeed, there he entered more thoroughly into our lot than we ourselves need do. Herein is the gospel: Christ died for us.
