There is no substitute for genuine contrition. Who I am, who I am related to, what human grouping or class I am part of, how much I know--none of these is any substitute for facing the truth that there is nothing about me that gives me an edge so that I do not need to change as others must. I am never more truly a child of God than when I admit that privilege is not my right, but God's gift.
