"You cannot serve both God and money" (Luke 16:13).

Money is never present in human affairs as mere stuff. Here, it is personalized as 'Mammon. Persons can entice, beguile, deceive, persuade and manipulate. More than anything else in this life, Mammon is opposed to God's rule. God's system is the law of love. Mammon's values are those of the marketplace: profit and loss, price, usury and bankruptcy.
