The men of Judah reasoned that their idolatry had done them no harm. Their wives reasoned that their idolatry had not been condemned by their men, so it had done them no harm either. As surely as bad things can happen to the upright, just as surely does prosperity often attend the wicked. Good fortune or bad does not indicate right or wrong. Freedom from trouble does not signal God's favor. Nor does the good opinion of one's husband--or wife.
