"They say to the seers, 'He has no vision! And to the prophets, 'Give us no more vision

The prophets are never welcome. By and large their lives are fraught with danger. They suffer trial, ignominy and frequently death. Prophets never tell us what we want to hear. Just as good medicine may have a nasty taste, so the prophets are our friends, they can do us much good. Our instinctive delinquent response to their ministry is itself prophetic. It tells us the serious nature of our condition. At heart we really do not want God to reign over us. For all that, God remains interested in us.
