King David is a fortunate man indeed. God has enriched him with many kindnesses and opportunities. Today’s verse comes at the end of a list of some of them. Despite these blessings, David has done a terrible thing. His crime is shocking and dreadful, but its odium derives from its context—the kindness and generosity of God. The true worth of personality is most accurately seen when measured against its privileges. Evil is evil because it clashes with the personality of God. If God is not, nothing is wrong.
