In one sentence Jesus sums up the human condition and zeroes in on the decisive question for our existence. We must choose whether we are merely biological organisms with an array of fleshly appetites the satisfaction of which all we are meant for, or whether that higher self we know of--the one that thinks about ideals and spiritual values--points to an ultimate and eternal purpose for us.
