There is a species of religious fervor which is entirely spurious. It is long on affected earnestness, and hollow devotion. It makes a show of worship, but it has the worshiper at the center and God the ego's accessory. The consuming aim of this religion is to make God subservient to human whim. Many turn away from faith because they were not able to get God to pay attention to their pious doings--and just as well. Real faith in God results in us noticing him, not the other way about.
