"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the
St. Augustine said that "man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever." If 'glorify' was replaced with 'love,' we would be close to the Mark because Jesus told us to 'love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind.' To do so is the whole of religion; the sum of the 'fasting' that God has chosen. Religious exercises that are disconnected from relationships with beings made in God's image, are not love to God. Love has no existence apart from the way we treat our fellow man.
