The Christian fellowship is not a mutual admiration society; not an self-congratulatory association. It finds its reason for being--not in its membership, not in its own canons or ethos--but in God. In particular, in God's loving action through his Son Jesus. Not what the church does, but what God has done--therein is the premise and the subject matter of the people of God.
