God should not be approached as some might approach a fortune teller; willing him/her to say something that accords with an enquirer's preferred outcome. To seek God in prayer, assuring him of absolute commitment to his revealed will, is a serious undertaking. When the true nature of what God requires of us is found out it is terrifying, daunting. But there's no way back. The way of peace and safety is in a forward direction only.
