"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?" (Luke 6:32).
These words of Jesus tell us that some of what is known as love is weak, and short on virtue. Some believe they are 'in love' but they are only caught in a euphoria of self regard. Uncompromising tribal loyalties can be associated with bitter hatreds. Patriotism frequently heralds violence against foreigners. Love only starts to be a force for good in the world when it crosses fixed boundaries to include outsiders.
