Jesus is not calling for us to be 'bums', lazy, and living off the efforts of those who do think about how we are going to eat and keep warm. He is seeking to persuade us that our personalities are much more than pieces of biological machinery. There is a spiritual dimension to humanity which takes up the greater part of reality. We are beings endowed with a capacity to know God. This enables us to construct a scale of values to order our choices and priorities. Food and shelter matter, but they do not come first.
