As he did often, Jesus was teaching about the values of God which would prevail under the reign of God. The pious Jewish man that responded to Jesus supposed that he would be among the blessed at God's feast. His remark was born of self-satisfaction and showed he had not been 'hearing' Jesus. Those who live to enjoy the kingdom of God are those who embrace its values here and now--the values of inclusiveness, and open-heartedness.
