" . . God who has saved us and called us to a holy life" ( 2 Timothy 1:9).
A holy life is not a life of useless piety. It is life dedicated to high purpose. That purpose is not an ill-defined ideal lying over the horizon of the future. Not at all. It is set at the beginning. As surely as Adam and Eve's existence was delineated at its launching, so Christian life is determined by God's creative work that initiates it. The saving is accomplished at the start. Such good news! The life thus saved is thereafter defined by that gospel.
