How could God describe the kind of existence he envisioned for men and women unless he showed us a human being actually living it. This is what the disciples believed they encountered in Jesus. It was not some spirit-being with no connection to the terrestrial, workaday world. Jesus' life was in every way mundane so that we could know that eternal life is not an escape from earthly reality, but an inhabiting of it that is spiritually winsome.
