Jesus takes it as his right to command the allegiance of his fellows. This is either crude arrogance, or he does truly sustain an exceptional relation to the rest of humanity. Yes, he is our brother and friend, but he is also Lord. Jesus' values are the values of God. No love worthy of the name lacks commitment to the values of the beloved.
